The songs that I listened to closely are "have you seen my laptop?" by Brian David Gilbert and "i hope your cow rolls down a hill." by Louie Zong.
The first one is notable in that it includes a hurdy-gurdy, and that's also the reason I chose to listen to it a little more closely. The hurdy-gurdy provides a drone that I used to identify when the melody resolves on the home triad. I tried to focus on the feeling of stability that the home triad provides and then build a solfege triad on it to check that I was right. This song is in a minor mode, but uses a major chord for the final triad, which I thought was a fun and bright way to end it. The second song I listened to reminded me of Achy Breaky Heart because it switches between the tonic and the dominant a lot in the intro section and the first little bit of the verse, so I was listening for those specific chord progressions and how they felt and what bass notes could be used to change between tonic and dominant. have you seen my laptop? - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YV__C64Ni50 i hope your cow rolls down a hill. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tm1dcrPWL_Q |
